Now in its fourth year MAGPAS operates a Community First Responder Group within
Warboys. This is a group of volunteers trained and equipped by MAGPAS to provide
lifesaving treatment to the local residents prior to the arrival of an
ambulance.
Community First Responders are volunteers who are notified by the ambulance
service of a 999 call to a medical emergency within the local area. The
Community First Responder is trained to treat people with cardiac arrest,
breathing problems, chest pains, unconscious patients, fitting patients or
diabetic patients. They do not attend children under the age of eight and
because they are volunteers they provide cover only when they are available in
the local area.
All training and equipment is provided by the charity MAGPAS which relies on
generous donations from the community to enable the service to carry on. It cost
£5000 for the group to be initially trained and equipped and it then costs
MAGPAS approximately £50 per activation of a Community First Responder (47
during 2007).
If you would like to be involved in the local group, either volunteering or
fundraising, then please contact
